Pelicans of the Mississippi

Cole Williams | Mississippi River, Minnesota

We live on the great Mississippi River in Minneapolis at a wide stretch called Spring Lake Park. We enjoy the spring that welcomes migrating pelicans to our area for the shallow and waters. The pelicans are distinguished by their unique flight patterns, each taking a turn to land onto the water; one at a time as if they were organized by flight control. The pelicans seem to love flying along the bluff and congregating in small groups. If really bored though, a few of them will spot a log floating down the energetic spring current, and hop on for a ride.

Nothing is better than to wake up with a coffee in hand, take a look outside our bay window and see three stationary pelicans floating by on the river, taking full advantage of nature’s gifts. We wonder if they hop off at some point and fly up to catch the next one.
