Coldest Spot in Town

Marcia Kellam | Sacramento, CA

In the late 60s, for our summer vacation, my father took the family on a road trip to Northern California. Back in those days, we spent a lot of time outdoors and I loved the freedom of running around, exploring, not having to worry about breaking anything, not having to be “girl-like.” One day Dad decided to take us to the Sacramento River to cool off from the intense heat of the Sacramento area. So, we stripped down to our bathing suits and jumped in. YIKES! It was the coldest feeling I’d ever experienced. And definitely refreshing. I didn’t stay in long, but I’ve never forgotten the fun shock of that day.
