Generational River

Margaret Halverson | Eminence, Missouri

There’s a river, named the Current River, in the Ozarks National River Ways, with its boundless beauty and Natural Spring fed conquests that brings back unforgettable moments in time! Adventures that began with my grandfather and father in Missouri, with tales so long ago, that continue onward with my children and the generation after them. As we go back to this river of our heritage, the memories seem to endlessly flow like the current where it’s name presides. I easily remember the laughter and love we have felt as family, as we camped and lit campfires along its banks, while listening to the comforting sounds of the river. My children skipping rocks, and finding the treasure of driftwood, or new found turtle or frog; Their grandparents sitting in chairs in wading river waters always within close hearing distance not to miss out on their newest finds. The rope swings that Grandpa put up on rivers edge that were an indulgence to escape the searing summer heat. The peaceful response that the river would bring, as we floated by tube or kayak along beautiful rock cliffs and river life ; all to add yet another part to our continuing story.
